The National Public Health and Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) has confirmed a case of Mpox after laboratory testing of a suspected case from the Western North Region was conducted and came out positive.
This was after a 15-year-old boy reported to the district government hospital with fever, general body pains, sore throat and rash that were initially in the palm and face but spread to the trunk(torso) and extremities limbs).
Following the report, the Western North Regional Health Directorate and the Bia West district engaged the public with health emergency management structures and implemented ways to control the disease.
The NPHRL indicated that a total of 15 contacts from healthcare facilities and 10 from the community have been identified and are being followed up.
A public health advisory issued on Thursday; October 3 revealed that 230 suspected cases of Monkeypox have been reported by 88 districts in all 16 regions with the Greater Accra region recording 87 suspected cases.
Central Region has recorded 26 suspected cases followed by Ashanti and Volta Regions with 20 cases each. A
No deaths have been recorded so far.
