Ranking member on the finance committee in parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson says the minority in parliament will vote against the e-levy which was earlier accepted at the committee level.
According to him, the e-levy seeks to tax the medium of exchange and must not see the limelight.
The Finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, presented the 2022 Budget Statement and Government’s Economic Policy in parliament which included an electronic levy that will be used to generate income to pilot many projects in the country including “YouStart”.
In a press briefing on Monday, Cassiel Ato Forson who is also the MP for Ajumako Enyan Esiam said they as the minority will introduce an amendment to remove the e-levy from parliament.
“I want to say that we in the minority will not stop there we will take the fight to the plenary, we will fight for the ordinary Ghanaian and we will ensure that E-LEVY will die today.”
He noted that all 137 NDC MPs will stand firm by the ordinary Ghanaian and that they will not compromise and will vote against the e-levy adding that they will introduce a number of amendments by ensuring that this light does not see the light of the day.
