Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah Akofi says the Election Security Taskforce will maintain vigilance and security during the ongoing elections.
In a press briefing affirming the taskforce’s preparedness for the elections , ACP Akrofi detailed some initial measures put in place to ensure that electoral security is upheld.
In her address, ACP Grace Akrofi stated that the security taskforce will vigilantly monitor for potential flashpoints and intervene when necessary while committing to regularly updating the public on issues concerning electoral security.
Meanwhile, she addressed issues pertaining to parking spaces at polling centres for voters with vehicles and sought the cooperation of electorates in compliance with electoral regulations.
“We wish to entreat such persons to ensure that they park about 100 metres away from the polling centres. And we have instructed our men on the ground to make sure they direct such persons to comply so we do not congest the polling stations with motorbikes. ”
She entreated the general public to avoid misinformation, urging them to share any information that may be beneficial to the success of the elections with the election security taskforce.
She urged the general public to also contact the police at the toll-free number 0800 311 311, adding that “our officers are ready behind all the telephones and will be picking up and responding to situations as they share information with us.”
Meanwhile she said the public must desist from passing on inaccurate and unverified information to ensure a peaceful and successful process.
“And to facilitate this, we will continue to update you with the facts as far as security-related issues are concerned as and when they come up.”
