The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has refuted rumors that it would carry out another load-shedding exercise in parts of the country as part of ongoing maintenance works.
This follows rumors in the media that the firm had issued a schedule for a two-month load-shedding operation.
In a statement to the media on Wednesday afternoon, ECG’s Managing Director, Kwame Agyeman-Budu, urged the public to ignore such information, expressing sorrow that the allegation had caused some Ghanaians discomfort and anxiety.
“We have enough power to supply and we also have enough gas to support our generation plants to supply adequate power to our network,” he remarked.
He did, however, state that ECG is now engaged in scheduled maintenance work, which is being led by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).
According to him, since the last phase has yet to begin, the ECG has not completed the specifics regarding the potential effect of the maintenance work on power supply and therefore cannot predict whether or not there will be interruptions.
“We are now preparing for the last phase of the upgrade works which requires engagements with stakeholders and regulators to agree on the final date to commence work. We have just started with the process of discussing with GRIDCo to know the impact of the works on power supply,” he said.
He said that since the power load would be transferred to the Kasoa Bulk Supply Plant, homes and businesses should not suffer any disruptions.
