Executive Secretary of National Labour Commission (NLC), Ofosu Asamoah says the NLC can only invade in an impasse provided both parties request their involvement in the matter.
He said negotiations, mediation, and arbitration were some procedures in resolving labor-related issues, but prevention itself was a tool for solving labor-related issues.
According to him, it is untrue that the commission is always quick to resort to court to intimidate striking unions instead of dealing with their challenges as an independent arbiter.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi on Thursday, Ofosu Asamoah described the commission as the most competent institution under the fourth republic and noted that the commission only resorts to the court as a last option.
He explained that “In our process, we have the privileges and immunities of the high court however we are not a high court. So when we give a directive, an order, or a ruling the only way of enforcing it if it is not voluntarily respected by the parties is to go to the high court and we enforce it.”
