The National Service Scheme (NSS) has disputed claims that it owes personnel three months in allowance arrears.
Personnel has been paid up to December 2021, according to the NSS’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Armstrong Esaah.
On JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, he refuted the allegations.
He stated that “the National Service Scheme owes the National Service personnel two months, thus, January and February.”
Hundreds of National Service personnel have resorted to social media in recent days to express their dissatisfaction with the delay in the payout of their monthly allowance.
The staff stated in a series of tweets and comments monitored by JoyNews that the delay in payment of their stipend has made life tough for them, especially in light of the recent economic crisis.
Mr. Esaah did, however, recognize the NSS personnel’s worries.
“We do accept the concerns and the plights of the National Service personnel regarding the delay in the payment of their allowance, but it must be established that we owe them for the month of January and February,” he emphasised.
He also guaranteed that the January allowance will be paid by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Julius Kwame Anthony, General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), stated that Mr. Esaah’s claim that personnel had been given their December allowance “is not factual.”
“You can verify from several service personnel. They have not received their pay for December, January and February,” Julius stressed.
