Obaapa Christy says she fully supports paying gospel artists, saying there have been discussions about whether or not they should perform for free.
Obaapa Christy claims that gospel performers, like secular artists, must pay enormous production expenses and, as a result, are unable to make ends meet by singing “God Bless You” to cover these fees and the ongoing expenses of their performances.
“We pay bills and other expenses so yes, so we need to get paid for our services be it at a church or wherever. Studio fees, backup singers among others do not come free. We pay for them so how can we continue to fulfil our obligations if we offer our services for free?” she asked.

On Thursday, February 1, Obaapa Christy released a new song titled “Ebesesa.” Literally translating to “it will change” in Akan, the song inspires listeners to persevere through any challenges they may be facing.
“We are in hard times and people are going through a lot. After COVID-19, a lot has changed and most people are not having it easy at all. This song which is accompanied by a video shot by Skyweb in Ghana gives hope to the hopeless. The lyrics are encouraging to make you know God is with you and will change your situation for you” she added.
Obaapa Christy has a long list of hits to her name. She celebrated her 20 years in the gospel music business with a performance last year. Among them are Mesuafre Awurade, Bo Abrabo Papa, Wagye Me, W’ asue Me, Hyebre Sesafo, Destiny Changer, Woa Maa, and The Glory.
At the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Obaapa Christy took home the Best Female Vocal Performance, Gospel Artiste of the Year, and Best Collaboration of the Year awards.
