Rev. Osei Boateng, Administrator of Takoradi Hospital, claims the hospital is keeping the medical records of Josephine Panyin Mensah, the reported pregnant lady who was allegedly abducted in Takoradi around two weeks ago.
According to him, the institution is unable to provide comprehensive details about her visits to confirm or refute her pregnancy.
Rev. Boateng informed that the lady in question initially visited the institution in September 2020, but records indicate that she made at least two more visits for medical treatment.
“The checks reveal that this lady has ever visited the hospital, once, twice or three times according to the records, but we are not able to disclose the detailed information concerning the purpose of coming and the conditions for which reason she was seen by a doctor so we are not allowed to do so.”
“This lady has been in the hospital and the first time she came there was around last year September, and from there, records show that for about two or three occasions, she has been at the hospital,” he added.
Many people were affected last week when word of the alleged abduction of 9-month pregnant Josephine Panyin Mensah spread on social media.
There were many calls for her assistance to help find her.
On Tuesday, it was reported that she had been recovered in Axim, but without her baby bulge, which she said had been stolen by her captors, according to eyewitnesses.
She was then brought to the Axim Government Hospital, but in an odd turn of events, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, said that the woman’s allegation of pregnancy and kidnapping is untrue.
The woman’s husband and several neighbors believe she was pregnant, leaving many people with conflicting emotions about the issue.
With many calling for a speedy investigation into the matter in order to obtain a full disclosure, Takoradi Hospital, one of the health facilities she is said to have sought medical attention at, may hold the key to determining if she was indeed pregnant at the time of her alleged kidnapping, as her medical records may contain information about the type of health service she sought there.
However, Rev. Osei Boateng, the facility’s Administrator, said that such information cannot be released to the public right now since investigations are still ongoing.
He said that the institution would only be allowed to do so if instructed by the Regional Health Directorate.
He assured them that the documents would be stored securely at the facility.
“The folders are still in our custody and all other details are still in our custody and until we receive a directive from our superiors, it might be difficult for us to release that one. This is patient confidentiality [issues and] we cannot breach that contract. The folder is in the hospital under lock and key. I can assure you,” he noted.
