General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah says the party has taken notice of the Electoral Commission’s decision to investigate the statement made by the former president emphasizing that the NDC expects the EC to take steps to restore confidence and credibility in the electoral process.
Mr. Mahama had alleged when he addressed the Divisional Chief of Prestea Himan, Nana Nteboah Prah IV, recently, as part of his Thank You tour of the Western Region that “More than one million extra ballot papers were printed, which the EC claimed happened by mistake but on the day of the elections, some of the more than one million extra ballot papers had already been secretly thumb-printed in favour of the NPP.”
But responding to him, Dr. Bossman Asare said at a press conference that “We see that our silence on this matter has dire consequences on public confidence in the Commission, and we want the police to investigate it”.
However, at a press conference Thursday, the general secretary of the NDC said the NDC as a party has taken notice of the call made by the deputy chair and stands prepared to assist in any credible investigation into the matters raised.
He added that “we are going a step further to lodge an official complaint with the police and to provide them with the evidence and assistance to investigate the matter to unravel the truth for all Ghanaians to see.”
