Former President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia express their joy at the stability and tranquility in the Gonja Traditional Kingdom.
At the outdooring of the new King of Gonja at Damongo, in the Savannah Region, the pair delivered these remarks.
Bikunuto Jewu Soale, the new ruler, is crowned as the 34th Yagbonwura in Nyanget, the former Gonja capital.
Speaking at the ceremony, former President Mahama expressed his pride in being a Gonja and was happy that his tribesmen undertook the enskinment process peacefully.

He, therefore, appealed to the new overlord to continue the good works and tradition of Gonjas in Gonjaland and also called on the government to support the development of the Gonja kingdom.
Also, Vice President Dr. Bawumia commended the people of the Gonja kingdom for allowing peace to reign in his address.
Notwithstanding their political differences, he continued, they are still brothers from the North and must coexist peacefully in order for northern Ghana to prosper.
Dr Bawumia added that government will continue to support the palace of the king and the Gonja kingdom with development projects.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the overlord, Benkurowura Saaka Mahama from the Buipe traditional area, in an address delivered on behalf of the overlord Be-Kunuto-Jewu Soale noted that, “I thank the Vice President and former President John Dramani Mahama for honouring the invitation for the outdooring of the new overlord.”
Bikunuto Jewu Soale is prepared to put in a lot of effort to promote peace and development in the traditional territory, he continued.
He encouraged the government to assist Gonjaland and assist in settling the few chieftaincy problems that exist in the kingdom.
