The Ghana Education Service (GES) has responded to public discussions on the recently released provisional results from the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations at the GES, Daniel Fenyi, the Service debunked claims by former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum that it had cancelled allowances due teachers.
This follows comments made by the former Minister of Education during a campaign event, blaming the poor WASSCE results on the alleged suspension of teacher intervention grants by the current government.
GES urged the public to “disregard the statements made by the former Minister, Dr. Adutwum, regarding the 2025 WASSCE results”, describing it as “an attempt to shift focus from his shortcomings in managing the examination process.”
“Management of GES views the 2025 WASSCE results as a true reflection of the academic performance of the candidates. The outcome is a credible representation of students’ abilities.”, the statement added.
It further stated that the outcome of the WASSCE is a “direct demonstration towards restoring integrity of the examination process.”
Relatedly, the GES announced that Ghana will move away from the Ghana-only WASSCE to take the International WASSCE – written by all West African Examination Council (WAEC) member countries – in May / June 2026.
The Service also assured that it will not compromise the integrity of examinations and will work with all stakeholders to improve teaching and learning.
Since the release of the provisional results for WASSCE 2025 on Saturday, November 29 2025, public discourse has soared over rising failure rates of candidates, especially in core subjects, which are key requirements for access to tertiary education.
