A total of 461,640 final-year senior high school (SHS) students are set to participate in the 2025 WASSCE Examinations beginning today August 5, 2025.
The number includes 207,381 males and 254,259 females, reflecting a slight increase of 1,029 candidates over last year’s total.
Outlining the full details of the final preparations for the 2025 WASSCE, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis indicated that all is set to begin the examinations today August 5, 2025.
The examination will begin with practicals in project work in subjects such as Basketry, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Jewelry, and Leather works, which will run until Friday, August 22, 2025.
The written papers will begin from 20th August 2025 and end on 19 September 2025. In all, 65 subjects will be taken by candidates, but each candidate will take an average of eight subjects.
According to the Director-General, the examination will be conducted in about 701 examination centres across the country.
He extended best wishes to the candidates and urged them to prepare diligently.
“I wish to use this opportunity to congratulate candidates and wish them all the best in their examinations. I will, however, admonish them to prepare very well for the examinations. They should apply themselves to their books and ensure that they do independent work during the examinations.”
He further advised candidates not to rely on external help or “apo” emphasizing “that will not come. We’re sure that will not happen in the examinations.”
“They shouldn’t engage in any form of malpractice because that will attract severe punishment and we don’t want them to find themselves in that situation,” he continued
Examination Malpractice
Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), issued a stern warning against examination malpractice “We know the effect of examination malpractice on the integrity of the certificates and the education system as a whole. So they shouldn’t do it. We want to protect the integrity of our examinations,” he stressed.
He mentioned that invigilators and supervisors will be dismissed if caught adding that the “GES council has the power to dismiss invigilators and supervisors who are caught indulging in examination malpractices.
Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis requested the support of all stakeholders to ensure smooth and successful examinations free from collusion.
