The provisional results for the 2022 West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination(WASSCE) have been released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
According to a statement released by WAEC on Thursday, the results only apply to students from Ghana who took the exams this year.
The exam body claims that candidates can view the results on its website.
However, 8,486 candidates who were accused of damaging school property and engaging in other criminal activity by the Ghana Education Service won’t be able to view their results.
Parts of the announcement stated that “the impacted applicants are recommended to contact their schools for their results.”
Performance Statistics
A total of 422,883 candidates from 977 schools, including 203,753 men and 219,130 women, took the tests.
According to WAEC, “This number is 5.25% lower than the 446,352 entrance amount from 2021.”
The statement added, “A total of 2,818 (0.67%) of the candidates who registered were absent from the examination.
The table below provides candidate performance in core subjects as well as a comparison of candidate performance over the previous three years (2020-2022).
Meanwhile, the Council says “the entire results of 117 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged cases of impersonation detected during the examination”.
WAEC states that the results of such candidates “may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of the investigations.”
WAEC further stated that in some courses, the scripts of candidates from 179 schools “are being scrutinised for reported cases of collusion.”
In a related development, 3,845 candidates’ subject results have been canceled for bringing foreign material into the examination hall.
This is in addition to the results of 518 applicants who were disqualified for bringing cellphones into the examination hall, according to WAEC.

In its final statement, the Council warned all stakeholders, particularly candidates, to “be on the alert for scammers who promise to upgrade results for a fee.”
“Candidates are to note that all WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated using the results verification system or by downloading the WAEC QR Code.
Institutions are also urged to always verify results presented to them to expose incidents of forgery”, it warned.
