According to the Electoral Commission (EC), fake Ghana Card numbers were used to register certain persons in the current voter registration process at the Pusiga District Registration Centre on May 13, 2024.
According to the EC, about 17 people were discovered using fake Ghana Card numbers during the registration process at the said location.
The EC took immediate action after discovering the fake registrations. The Registration Officer in charge of managing the procedure at the center was immediately removed.
Law enforcement officials apprehended the officer after receiving a tip about the illegal acts.
In its statement made on Monday, May 20, the EC offered more information on the fake registrations.

The inquiry found that the Registration Officer had failed to adequately check the legitimacy of the Ghana Cards given by each applicant.
Instead, the official negligently accepted fake numbers supplied by Party Agents who accompanied the 17 applicants during the registration procedure.
The EC highlighted the seriousness of the matter, expressing grave concern about the lack of integrity in the voter registration process.
In light of these discoveries, the EC informed the public that it is committed to maintaining the integrity of the voter registration process.
“Upon investigation, it was revealed that the Ghana Card numbers were fake. It was further discovered that the Registration Officer was complicit because he did not physically inspect the Ghana Card of individual applicants but rather accepted the fake numbers from Party Agents who had accompanied the 17 applicants.
“The Registration Officer was dismissed. A report was made to the Police and he was arrested. He has since been granted a police enquiry bail while the Police continue with their investigations. The 17 applicants were subsequently registered through the Guarantor System,” the statement said.
