The Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr. Suleman Konney, has called for close relations between all institutions and services for the country’s holistic growth.
Agriculture, oil and gas, and mining, he said, are all growth poles that have an effect on each other, necessitating the need to optimally leverage them for collective progress.
This was reported by the Chamber’s Chief Executive Officer during a meeting with Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister, at his office in Sekondi.
The aim of the meeting was to provide a shared ground for fruitful cooperation on the implementation of a development plan that would lead to the overall development of the region.
Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi seemed to have progressed in growth to the exclusion of the majority of the provinces, resulting in socioeconomic imbalance and insecurity among the population.
According to him, the chamber has dedicated funds to the UMAT for training and creativity in order to help the region grow.
“We’re also financing a report on mining support resources to ensure Ghana retains its place as Africa’s industry leader.”
When it came to mineral transportation, the CEO emphasized the importance of swift intervention on the Western Rail lines to relieve road congestion and aid in bulk haulage turnaround time.
The Western Regional Minister responded by stating that the Region already has a strategy in place for geographical balance, economic diversity, and environmental management.

He added that it was also critical to develop other parts of the world and that everybody needed to get to work in order to accelerate the region’s stability and Ghana’s overall development.
Mr Darko-Mensah reported that the government had received $575 million for the rail line extension to Huni Valley.
“We have already secured the right of way to enable Amanda, the contractors to start work.”
Later, the CEO of the Chamber of Mines and his team met with Journalists from the area.
