The University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG), UCC Branch, has held a handing-over and swearing-in ceremony to officially induct the newly elected leaders into office.
The new executives are Dr. Samuel Bert Boadi Kusi (President), Dr. (Mrs.) Salome Amissah-Essel (Vice-President), Dr. Jerry Opoku-Ansah (Secretary) and Dr. Beatrice Asante Somuah (Treasurer).
In his speech, the re-elected President, Dr. Samuel Bert Boadi Kusi thanked members of UTAG for entrusting him with another two-year term in office.
He expressed gratitude to the outgoing leadership for their effort and support in working for the welfare of members.
Dr. Boadi-Kusi said although there are challenges facing the association at the local and national front, the current administration will ensure that these challenges are dealt with.
He said the association will continue to dialogue with authorities to resolve the bottlenecks on the promotion criteria especially when the new criteria is about to be implemented as approved by the University Council.
“Also we have followed up on the book and research allowances for this year. All necessary processes have been completed even at the institutional level. However we are currently awaiting the controller and accountant general to release a transfer advice to the bank of Ghana. We hope that this final process will not be long so that colleagues can be answered.” He assured.
Again we will seek to create a database for members to facilitate the processing of welfare claims and receiving of benefits to make the process a bit smoother for all of us. We will seek to engage the university management and other stakeholders to make the university hospital attractive to members.” He assured members again at the swearing in ceremony on Wednesday at the University of Cape Coast.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong who chaired the function reiterated his administration’s continuous commitment to work with the leadership of the UCC branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG-UCC).
He emphasized that “In fact issues that have dragged from long period of time, we have been able to solve it within a very short period that I have in office especially the promotion criteria.”
He however advised the new executives to work beyond reproach and maintain the long-standing collaboration that exist between management and the Association.
