Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has condemned the lobbying efforts surrounding the selection of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, describing it as disrespectful.
She stressed the importance of the Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia being allowed to independently choose his running mate ahead of the December general elections.
“Let him be given the space to choose the person he thinks can partner with him. I think it is even disrespectful for people to be lobbying as if he can’t make his own decision,” she remarked during an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.
The Communications Minister expressed strong disapproval on the issue, emphasizing that the running mate position should not be solicited or speculated upon.
“Is that a position you lobby or gamble for? I am absolutely against any active seeking of any such position. It is an appointed position. I think the flagbearer should be left and given the space to decide who he thinks can best partner him,” she added.
