The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has called on Ghana’s insurance industry to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in order to rebuild public trust and strengthen the financial ecosystem.
Speaking at the 2025 induction ceremony of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), Prof. Mawutor said that restoring confidence in the sector hinges on ethical leadership, transparency, and strict adherence to professional standards.
“For years, the insurance sector has been in a state of redefinition,” he remarked. “Now is the time to firmly commit to credibility and accountability. This is both timely and profound, especially as insurance remains a reasonable and essential component in today’s global economy.”
He challenged the Chartered Insurance Institute to lead reforms that will not only restore integrity in the industry but also inspire the next generation of professionals to uphold these principles.
Also addressing the ceremony, CIIG Vice President Yvonne Osei Addo emphasized the importance of building a resilient financial system with insurance as a cornerstone.
“Insurance is a vital pillar of any strong financial ecosystem,” she stated. “But before it can fulfill its potential, we must first confront existing issues around transparency, trust, and professionalism.”
The ceremony brought together key stakeholders from across Ghana’s financial and insurance sectors, reinforcing calls for renewed discipline, ethical conduct, and forward-looking reforms to reposition the industry for long-term growth.
