The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has achieved a remarkable recognition in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.
Announced on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, UCC has been ranked first in Ghana for its contributions to advancing good health and well-being, a key focus of Sustainable Development Goal 3.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance metrics that evaluate universities based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Using meticulously calibrated indicators, the ranking compares universities’ impact across research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.
This year marks the sixth edition of the Impact Rankings, with 2,125 universities from 125 countries and regions participating.
UCC has demonstrated unparalleled excellence, securing the top national spot with an impressive score of 75.8 in the SDG 3 category.
This category assesses universities’ efforts in advancing universal health coverage, reducing preventable deaths, and enhancing public health through innovative research, comprehensive health services, and community outreach programs.
Globally, 1,498 universities from 115 countries submitted data for this ranking for which UCC was ranked second in Ghana for the provision of quality education, corresponding to SDG 4.
This category evaluates universities’ commitment to ensuring access to education at all levels, from early childhood to secondary education and beyond, while equipping students with relevant skills for the future workforce.
A total of 1,681 universities from 122 countries participated in this category with UCC notably the only university in Ghana recognized in the SDG 14 category, Life Below Water.
This recognition underscores the university’s commitment to sustainable marine resource management, coastal ecosystem protection, and marine pollution combat through focused research, educational initiatives, and direct action.
A total of 628 universities from 90 countries were recognized in this category.
Globally, UCC has been ranked in the 101-200 band for both good health and well-being and quality education, and in the 201-300 band for life below water. Overall, UCC was placed in the 601-800 band out of the 2,125 participating universities worldwide.
