The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has increased its research grant money from GHS 600,000 to GHS1 million to support research projects.
Announcing this at the 6th Research and Grant Awards Ceremony of the university (UCC) on Wednesday, December 8, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong said the increment will help faculties in the university to attract external grants, meaningful collaborations, and recognition.
He stressed that “the university management recognizes that this amount is still inadequate but we do not want to lose sight of its strategic nature.
According to him, the initiative to increase the amount forms part of the University’s resolve to continue undertaking meaningful and innovative research and promote its vision of positioning the University as the Centre of academic excellence on the African continent.
Prof. Nyarko Boampong said “this strategic investment disbursed as small grants and awards have positively impacted the research output of faculties significantly as measured by the number of publications in reputable journals.
He further added that these grants are strategically disbursed to better position faculties to attract external grants and meaningful collaborations.
He entreated the Directorate of research, Innovation, and Consultancy to continue to carry on meaningful and innovative research that responds to national and global needs.
“As we celebrate the winners of the sixth research and grants awards, may we all be motivated to continue to in the way of interdisciplinary and innovative research that engage relevant collaborators and respond to national, regional, and global needs” Professor Nyarko Buampong reiterated.
