The Office of International Relations, University of Cape Coast, in collaboration with the University’s International Students’ Association has held its maiden Study Abroad Fair and International Students’ Cultural Day Celebration.
The event aims at creating a platform for international students to learn about their respective cultures while networking and encouraging Ghanaian students to study abroad.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rosemond Boohene, stressing on the importance of holding such events in the University said the resulting networking of such events creates unending beneficial opportunities for the students involved.
Sharing her experience, she explained that her study abroad in Australia resulted in an unending friendship with people from varied countries and has created long-term benefits for her.
She said the organization of the Study Abroad Fair and Cultural Day is needful as through the exhibition on the various institutions and equipment, students can have the opportunity to participate in the study abroad programmes.
President of the International Students’ Association, Charles Abinbola Fashiyie appealed to Management of the University to help address the challenges international students face while studying. He noted that accommodation for international students must be looked at.
To mark the festival, activities such as cooking competition, dancing, flag parades, and the singing of national anthems were held.
Some international students sharing their experiences with ATLFM NEWS said it is their hope to strengthen their bond with the Ghanaian students.
