The University of Cape Coast has held a hybrid matriculation ceremony for newly admitted College of Distance Education (CoDE) students for the 2023/2024 academic year.
A total of ten thousand, two hundred and ten (10, 210) students have been admitted to the college to pursue various undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in education, business, and social sciences.
In terms of gender parity, a total of five thousand, three hundred and twenty -three (5,323) representing 52% of male students were admitted, and a total of four thousand, eight hundred and eighty-seven (4,887) female students representing 47.9% were admitted, indicating a significant milestone in achieving gender parity.
The Provost of CoDE, Professor Mohammed Anokye Adam in his address on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong indicated that the choice made by the newly admitted students to be a part of the University of Cape Coast confirms the confidence reposed in the school’s academic excellence, evidenced by the outcome of the 2024 Times Higher Education Global Universities Ranking.
While commending them for choosing the right school, he admonished the freshmen and freshwomen to live up to the university’s core values.
He assured the students of the University’s readiness to provide a conducive environment to propel their academic work.
“We are excited and happy to provide you with an environment that will expose you to an amazing and wide range of learning experiences” he continued.
He especially urged women within the working class to take advantage of the convenience and flexibility in the college’s programmmes and enrol in most of the programmes on offer.
Professor Mohammed Anokye Adam revealed that plans are far advanced for the college to roll out a virtual classroom facility for undergraduate programmes.
He added that the facilities include video conferencing technology, and soft course models that will enable students to access lectures wherever they are.
“We as an institution are committed to helping you achieve your dreams… Do your part by studying hard and adhering to the rules and regulations outlined in these books and other rules existing in the university,” he continued.
