The Industrial Design Office at the University of Cape Coast has launched a new digital platform to streamline the internship application process for students.
This innovative platform aims to provide students with work experiences that align with their academic learning, thereby preparing them for the corporate world.
Speaking at the Faculty of Social Sciences Dean’s Award Ceremony, Mr. Chris Aggrey, a representative from the Directorate of Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of internships for gaining practical experience and building a robust Curriculum Vitae (CV).
He highlighted the significance of internships in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and professional skills, stating, “Please don’t wait until you are done and looking for a job. Build your CVs. These days, by the power of technology, we can just generate some templates and samples all over.”
Mr. Aggrey also mentioned that some organizations still require CVs even for internships, explaining, “It is not to scare you from coming, but it is a way of training you to be up to speed with the trends.”
The new platform he says allows students to apply for internships digitally using their existing university credentials and provides a comprehensive list of organizations offering internships and even allows students to suggest their preferred organizations if not already listed.
“You can log in with your student credentials, the very ones you use for your results assessment and timetable. You will find a plethora of organizations there. If you don’t find your preferred organization, we have created an avenue for you to add whatever organization you wish to have an internship.” Mr. Aggrey noted.
Mr. Aggrey emphasized the platform’s flexible features, which include facilitating real-time monitoring and assessment of student internships, therefore urging all students to utilize the new platform for their internship placements, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
“It is as simple as you can do it on your phone, on your laptop. Easy to do. And it affords us the opportunity to assess whatever the student is doing in real time. We don’t wait until you finish your internship of about 8-6 weeks. So we urge all students who would want to do an internship to, as well, come through this portal and then have the internship placement successfully done for you.”
