The Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) has launched its 50th anniversary celebrations in a simple but elegant ceremony at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
The event also marked the fifth anniversary of the Institute’s designation as a UNESCO Centre of Excellence, highlighting its pivotal role since 1975 in developing educational leaders, conducting research, and providing consultancy services to governments and institutions across Africa.
Delivering the keynote address, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of UCC, Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, commended the Institute for its immense contributions to education.
“Indeed, 50 years as an institute, and five years as the Centre of Excellence for West Africa under UNESCO, is no mean achievement. These milestones reflect the hard work and vision of IEPA’s leadership and their commitment to educational transformation in Ghana, Africa, and beyond,” he stated.
Professor Aheto emphasized that IEPA’s work aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education for All) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which advocates for well-educated citizens and skills development through science, technology, and innovation.
He further urged the Institute to embrace new technologies and innovative learning approaches to address challenges in education noting, “Innovation in education is not just about technology; it’s about reimagining learning, leadership, and policymaking. We must foster an environment where creativity thrives, where educators think outside the box, and where learners are equipped to succeed in a rapidly changing world.”
The 50th-anniversary celebrations, themed “Innovating for Educational Impact and Excellence,” will include a high-level international conference, alumni homecoming, publication of a commemorative book, and outreach activities.
The launch was attended by former UCC officials, IEPA management, staff, students, and educational leaders from across the country.
