The Faculty of Arts at the University of Cape Coast has held its Dean’s Awards Ceremony to recognize its best-performing students for the 2023 / 2024 academic year.
The ceremony, held under the theme “Building Integrity in Sustainable Human Development: The Arts as a Foundation,” recognized students who attained a GPA of 3.6 and above.
Addressing the ceremony, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo Kantanka urged the awardees to continue inspiring others and pushing the boundaries of possibility.
“To all our awardees, remember that today is a recognition of all that you have accomplished so far, but it is also a reminder that the journey is ongoing. Let this recognition be both a celebration and a call to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Thank you, and may your passion for the arts, for learning, and for service to continue to inspire others, just as you have inspired us all today,” he said.
The Chairperson for the awards ceremony, a former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, urged students to pursue not only academic excellence but also cultivate a spirit of service.
“Do not strive for only academic excellence. Because if you gain knowledge and you don’t know how to apply the knowledge to help your community, it is of no use. Rather, strive to be somebody who is dignified, somebody who can differentiate between the right and the wrong, so that you do right by your community. You do right by the job that you find yourself in. You do right by your family.
“So do not just acquire knowledge. Learn to serve. There are some people who just read their books and get A’s, but there are others too who read their books, get A’s, but they also volunteer a little part of their time to help other people who are not as privileged as they are.”

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Professor Kobby Mensah called on students to be inspired to dream and imagine through the arts.
He added that sustainable human development is a continuous call to action built on the foundation of arts, noting “Dear students, as you celebrate your well-earned recognition today, I encourage you to carry this theme with you. Build your lives not only on the quest for knowledge but also on the bedrock of values.”
“Let the arts inspire you to dream, to imagine, and to create a world where integrity thrives. Let me reiterate that sustainable human development is not a distant ideal. It is a continuous call to action. The arts, rich in symbolism, layered in meaning, and unflinching in truth, offer us the foundation upon which such development can be built.”
During the ceremony, Miss Sandra Amoateng, a third-year student reading the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies programme was celebrated as the overall best student in the Faculty of Arts.
In all thirty-nine (39) level 100 students, twenty-eight (28) level 200 students and twenty-seven (27) level 300 students were recognized for their hard work.
The ceremony was well-attended by students, faculty and some parents of the awardees.
