A sod-cutting ceremony has been held at the North Campus of the University of Cape Coast to commence work on the construction of the institute for law and governance complex.
The complex which is sponsored by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation when completed is expected to host the faculty of law and the institute of oil and gas studies.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong expressed gratitude to GNPC for sponsoring the project and indicated that, he is hopeful that the complex when completed, will help the university train more human capacity for the development of the nation.
“The University of Cape Coast is grateful to GNPC for accepting to sponsor this project and we understand that you are investing to the tune of 5million US Dollars for the construction of this project and I think this is very commendable.”
Prof Nyarko Boampong said the university will support the GNPC to ensure the completion of the project within the specified period.
In a remark, the Chief Executive Officer of GNPC, Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong said the construction of the complex is also to help promote research into petrol commerce as well as strengthen the legal aspect of this enterprise.
He said the initiative was inspired by their quest to develop professional law studies in Cape Coast to the benefit of interested persons in Central and Western regions and the country at large.
Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong also reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the project is completed within the stipulated time frame of 24 months.
On her part, the Central Regional Minister Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan commended GNPC for the initiative and charged the contractors to use the opportunity to employ indigenous youth to work on the project.
