The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has extended warm congratulations to the University for Development Studies (UDS) following its historic triumph in the 2025 FISU World University Games football final in China.
UDS secured a 2-1 victory over Brazil’s Paulista University, with the winning goal coming in the 120th minute of extra time. The victory has been hailed nationwide as a proud moment for Ghana’s higher education and sporting fraternity.
In a statement signed by UCC’s Acting Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, the University described the win as a reflection of UDS’s resilience and Ghana’s sporting spirit.
“This victory is a testament to the team’s discipline, determination, and the strong tradition of sporting excellence within Ghana’s higher education sector,” the statement said.
UCC further noted that the achievement resonates beyond UDS, carrying the pride of the entire country.
“We are proud to celebrate this historic victory with UDS, which not only brings honour to your institution but also raises high the flag of Ghana on the global stage,” it added.
The University also commended the UDS players, the technical bench, management, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success.
The milestone win has sparked widespread celebration across Ghana, drawing congratulatory messages from high-profile leaders including Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
