“We have Confucius Institute here at the college of humanities and legal studies under the faculty of Arts with students pursuing Bachelor of Arts in Chinese including other students that are taking the HSK preparation courses. Besides this, we also have many learning centers across Ghana, the University Primary School, West End University and West End International School among others. So, we saw the need to create an association that will champion the welfare of all these students and will bring them together to help promote their studies and enhance their student lives” he explained.
Dr. Isaac Ibrahim hinted that aside the academic welfare of the students, there is also the need for the students to abreast with the various Chinese cultures through organized activities, hence the establishment of CHINSA-UCC.
“So, basically, CHINSA is a welfare association and our motive is also to organize programs that highlights Chinese culture so that the students can benefits from this experience and promote a deeper understanding of China and Chinese Culture”.
He further tasked the newly inducted executives of the association to prioritize the welfare of the members adding that all students in the university should desire to learn the Chinese language.
He said, “For the executives I will say the are the first executives of the association so we expect a lot from them. They need to lay the foundation stone for future executives that will come and also, they need to seek the welfare of the students they represent at all times and make sure that all their needs are met”.
Dr. Ibrahim further called on the entire members of the university community to patronize the Chinese language. “We encourage you to join. Anybody can join, you do not need to have any knowledge of Chinese language. You can register and within a month or two, you can speak some form of Chinese, so, we welcome everybody on board”.
On his part, the newly inducted president of the association, Mr. Joseph Kyeremanteng pledged his dedication to work to put the association in the limelight and further asked for the support of both the Directors, the Teachers and the entire student body of the Confucius Institute-UCC to enable him and his colleagues discharge their duties diligently.
