The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is working towards securing premises and programme accreditation for the Accra and Dominase Centers of the College of Distance Education to run both regular and Distance Programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong says the Provost of the College of Distance Education, Prof. Anokye Mohammed Adam is leading the team to get the accreditation by the 2024/2025 academic year.
“It is believed that the UCC team led by the provost of the College of Distance Education in the person of Professor Anokye Mohammed Adam will work hard to obtain premise and programmes accreditation for the Dominase and Accra Study Centres to run regular as well as distance programmes come 2024-2025 academic year.”
The vice-chancellor also hinted that efforts are underway to promote online learning to cut down the frequent movement of students for learning purposes.
In that regard, he said the university management has decided to make the Agona Nyakrom Training Resource Centre a satellite campus which will run full-time programmes.
Additionally, an ad hoc committee has been constituted to initiate the centre’s accreditation to run BSE nursing and BSE information technology programmes.
According to the vice-chancellor, civil works for ICT infrastructure and e-learning facilities have been completed with ICT system installation nearing completion adding that “the project will soon be commissioned to improve online teaching for distance learners. We want to reduce the movement to improve to other regions.”
The vice-chancellor said this at the 8th to 12th session of the 56th congregation of the University Cape Coast held over the weekend to award degrees and diplomas to graduands who have studied through the distance mode of learning and delivery from the College of Distance Education.
He expressed confidence in the graduates’ ability to compete in the job market and perform any job task assigned to them in their line of work.
He further admonished them to use the training received during their period to better the society adding that the University’s tailor-made programmes are designed to add value to all who go through our teaching and learning process.”
He added, “The academic programmes are reviewed from time to time to correspond to the national needs in line with reforms prescribed by the regulator and ultimately the sector ministry and also to cater for the required competencies for job performance.”
