As part of its preparations for the 2023 annual sports competition, the University Basic Schools Sports Association (UBaSSA) games, have organized friendly games between the University of Cape Coast Basic School and the university of mines and technology (UMAT) basic school.

The events which took place at the University of Cape Coast saw both schools competing mainly in soccer and volleyball events at the primary and junior high school levels and in both the male and female categories.

At the end of the soccer game, the UCC primary boys defeated the UMaT primary boys by a score of 3 to 0, while the primary girls’ students defeated the UMAT primary ladies by a score of 1 to 0.

At the JHS level, however, the UMAT boys scored 2 and the UCC boys scored 1.

The Volleyball game also produced results in the favor of UCC. The students from both schools played with so much enthusiasm in all the games.

Speaking to ATLFM NEWS on the sidelines, the chairman of the technical committee of UBaSSA, Mr. Dominic Tuffour Nyamaah expressed his excitement for the competition’s resumption, stating that it was put on hold due to COVID-19.

“I am very happy that finally, we have resumed playing such competitions because it is bringing back the love and excitement for the games. Though we had some challenges and causalities here and there, generally the competition was a success. I’ll attribute those challenges to COVID-19 because students could not have effective training.” He stated.

The UBaSSA competition has been running for 9 years now and 4 University Basic Schools in the country have been competing together to forge stronger bonds and build support among the basic schools in the country.

The four schools include the University of Cape Coast Basic School, the University of Mines and Technology Basic School, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Basic School, and the University of Ghana Basic School.
