Tuchel Sees Club World Cup as a Game-Changer
Tuchel, who is currently managing England, is trying not to get too stressed about FIFA’s new Club World Cup, which kicks off on Saturday. While he remains focused on leading England to a potential World Cup victory next summer in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, he also believes the Club World Cup will significantly influence the next Premier League season. According to him, the added workload for clubs like City and Chelsea, who will be competing in the Club World Cup, will give Liverpool and Arsenal a “huge advantage” due to their lighter schedules.
Mixed Emotions Over the Tournament
The German coach expressed conflicting feelings about the upcoming competition. “I think it will be a very nice experience for the players who are there to play this tournament for the first time,” he said. But he added, “It will have a huge impact and give Liverpool and Arsenal a huge advantage next season to not be there.” Despite the possible downside, Tuchel has chosen not to dwell too much on what might happen. “We’ll deal with the effect when it comes,” he explained.
Players Eager Despite Heavy Load
Nine of Tuchel’s players, who featured in recent matches against Andorra and Senegal, are set to take part in the Club World Cup. But the manager emphasized their dedication. “There is not one player who says, ‘by the way, I would like to be on the bench and save myself for the Club World Cup,’” Tuchel said. He stressed that the real issue isn’t the number of games but the lack of proper rest time for players due to the congested calendar.
Kane Leads, Bellingham Absent
Among the nine heading to the Club World Cup is Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, who is expected to captain England once again at the City Ground in Nottingham. Training continued at St George’s Park with 24 players present, though Jude Bellingham was missing as he attended a family funeral. He was scheduled to rejoin the team later in the day.
