President Donald Trump announced that a group of “very wealthy people” is poised to purchase the short-form video app TikTok. In a Fox News interview on Sunday, Trump stated, “We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way,” adding that he will likely need approval from China, mentioning that he believes President Xi Jinping will agree.
Trump did not provide further details about the buyers but indicated he would reveal their identities in two weeks.

This announcement comes amid Trump’s ongoing delays in advancing a bill that would require TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or face a ban in the United States. In January, he suggested the possibility of creating a joint venture that would grant the U.S. 50% ownership.
Trump has also mentioned the potential involvement of allies like Larry Ellison or Elon Musk in the purchase, although Musk now appears to be a less likely candidate.
