Before the general elections in 2024, Ghanaian artist Okyeame Kwame disclosed that he received an offer to be Alan Kyerematen’s running mate.
Okyeame Kwame claims that Alan, the “Movement for Change” founder, outlined ten requirements for the position, which he thought were very appealing.
Okyeame Kwame clarified that he finally declined the offer despite its appeal, pointing out the many difficulties associated with a career in politics. He voiced worries about the possibility of propaganda, security threats, and the intense public scrutiny that frequently accompanies political life.
The musician emphasized that his decision was motivated by a desire to safeguard his family’s welfare in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM.

“I was in Kumasi for an event when he [Alan] approached out. He listed certain requirements for the individual he want to have as his running buddy when I visited him. It was really flattering. I’ve been in the music business for 26 years, and they were looking for someone who has made a big impact. Personal aspects like marriage and family were also taken into account.
“My kids are teenagers, so I couldn’t do it.
I would need to prepare them for at least a year if I [were to join] partisan politics. I also had to consider security: what if you were the target of misleading propaganda? What if your skeletons were discovered? Had I given my family the tools they needed to handle such pressure? No. And for that reason, I didn’t want to endanger my family,” he said.
Alan Kyerematen selected Elijah Kwame Owusu Danso, 40, as his running companion after Okyeame Kwame made his choice. In addition to being a skilled attorney, Elijah has broadcasting experience from his time with Pan African TV.
In an intriguing turn of events, Elijah’s experience in hip-hop music gives his otherwise professional work an artistic touch.
