President John Dramani Mahama, in a solemn and emotional address on Thursday, August 8 has called on Ghanaians to come together in grief and resist the urge for speculation or political division.
This follows the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight high-ranking public servants.
Describing the moment as one of “profound national sorrow,” the President said the tragedy represents a deep personal loss for him.
“I shared close bonds with many of these individuals who died,” he added.
He expressed particular condolences to the families, colleagues, and institutions that bore the greatest personal loss, offering words of encouragement in their time of mourning.
“Know that our entire country mourns with you. We share your pain. Your loss is our loss—a loss of dedicated public servants, intellectuals, and individuals who tirelessly worked for a better Ghana,” he continued.
President Mahama highlighted the dedication and service of each of the 8 individuals who lost their lives in the crash, emphasizing their contributions to Ghana’s progress.
He said the eight individuals dedicated their lives to Ghana’s progress and that their final moments spent in service is a testament to their unwavering commitment.
he believes that the country has “lost some of our nation’s brightest minds.”
The eight individuals include Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Tsum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo all of the Ghana Air Force.
In his address, President Mahama shared fond memories of the eight individuals.
He said Squadron Leader Anala, Flying Officer Ampadu, and Sergeant Addo were dedicated members of our Air Force, embodying the best of their profession.
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna was a humble yet effective public servant. Samuel Sarpong was a respected statesman, and Mr. Samuel Aboagye was a promising leader.
Dr. Omane Boamah was a brilliant and dedicated leader. Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed was a passionate voice for his constituents and a champion for environmental stewardship.
“These gallant men each served Ghana with distinction,” he added.
