The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has revealed how the accusations made against him have affected his personal and family life.
IGP emotionally said “Those wild allegations without a shred of evidence have brought a lot of pain to me, my family across the country and especially my wife and children. The pain also to my team, my command, and thousands of police personnel. I, an innocent person focusing on my job and working with my team to keep the country safe, have to be called here to answer unsubstantiated claims. This is just not fair, are we killing patriotism that anybody can just wake up and make allegations?”
“And people who go across the country, at times 48 hours, without sleep, just keeping the country at peace, will be called to come and answer allegations that are unfounded. And that becomes something I have no choice and have come and I say it to the glory of God, my maker, who sustains me every day. I will speak to the matters as you direct.”
“And I’m doing this because of the respect I have for myself, for my family, especially my children and wife, for the office that I occupy, for my brothers and sisters who are sitting behind me that we have to pull ourselves together in an unprecedented manner in a teamwork to get these things done for this country and for the respect I have for institutions of the state, including the Parliament, that we are here today”
He stated categorically that he is innocent of any wrongdoings, and will cooperate fully with any investigation to clear his name.
During his interrogation, the IGP revealed that he earned the enviable position through his hard work and commitment and not through any dubious means as alleged by the three police officers; COP Alex Mensah, Supt. George Asare and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi when they appeared before the committee.
He said although he didn’t have a secondary education, his dedication, commitment and honesty have made him what he is today.
Dr. Dampare again debunked allegations that he is the worst IGP ever explaining that his hard work and competencies are evident.
