A presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Addai Nimo has cautioned the top hierarch of the party to remain neutral ahead of the upcoming November 4 presidential primaries.
He says for the sake of the dignity of the party, public declaration of solidarity with specific aspirants must not be tolerated in any form.
Mr. Nimo maintains that if the NPP is determined to set a record by breaking the eight (8) then the party cannot employ the same old open support tactics.
To him, the support given to aspirants, if any, should be made private.
“…You could support me in private, but the public declaration is what we oppose. In 2014, there was a similar process of public declaration by MPs, now we are seeing a similar thing in 2023. But currently, it’s a different environment because the party now is in government,” he continued.
Speaking in an interview, Francis Addai Nimo also beseeched leadership of the NPP to treat the resignation of Mr. John Alan Kyerematen with urgency as it has the tendency to affect the fortunes of the party going into the 2024 general elections.
He emphasized that Mr. Alan Kyerematen vying for the presidential candidature as an individual will not earn him a win but surely impact the outcome of the NPP’s performance.
“it has an impact on the fortunes of the party in 2024. Yes, you won’t win, but you make an impact. Somebody may assume he’s an individual. Granted that he’s an individual, the threshold for victory in the national elections is 50% plus one. So, if he has backed up so that 50% plus one, that one is his vote. Where are we going to find him?
“But he’s not the only person. If you assume he’s the only person, I’m afraid not. So, I’m using this medium to let the party know, the leadership, national, and regional. Of course, everybody knows that he’s not alone. He has admirers in the party. He has family members, as well as friends.”
Mr. Addai Nimo argued that the party can only break the eight (8) if he is voted to lead the party going into the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.
He said the party needs a new face, a natural unifier for the party adding that he, Mr. Addai Nimo qualifies to break the eight (8) for the NPP.
