The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says his outfit is presently moving all Senior High Schools (SHSs) from double-track to single-track.
This, he explains as the reason the double-track system is not being implemented this year as first-year Senior High School students report to school.
“The Minister of Education is transitioning all schools from double-track to single-track. That is why we don’t have any double entity of form ones in any school in this country this year,” he stated.
According to him a promise made must be kept and that from next year, the entire school will open and close the academic year at the same time.
Speaking at the launch of the University of Cape Coasts’ 60th anniversary, Dr. Osei Adutwum assured Ghanaians that the Ministry of Education is putting in much effort to ensure that more schools operate as single-track schools next year.

He further stressed the need for Ghana’s education system to transition from the era where students have to memorize and provide for their teachers the same thing they were taught.
According to him, this does not make Ghana competitive in a world that is currently experiencing the fourth industrial revolution.
Dr. Adutwum said for the country’s educational sector to be competitive in the global stage, students must add value to what they are taught.
He said,” We are in a different era, and for our nation to be competitive, we need to change how we teach and how students learn… Our nation will not be competitive unless we stop rote memorizations in our classrooms. When we happen to be in a space where students are supposed to give back to us what we give back to them, that is not creating a competitive nation”.
