An Israeli court ruled on Sunday, 21st March,2021 that local authorities will ban teachers in Israeli towns from accessing school grounds until they show a negative coronavirus test or consent to be vaccinated.
The Tel Aviv District Labour Court dismissed a petition brought by an assistant teacher who was required by her employers and the local municipality to submit a negative coronavirus test every week or get vaccinated if she wished to continue teaching in a school in a town north-east of Tel Aviv.
The petitioner’s right to privacy and respect for her own body was not “at this point” stronger than the right to life and wellbeing of students, parents, and workers, and “therefore the right and duty of the municipality to protect these,” according to a court statement.

The court cited the need for legislators to pass rules to guarantee uniformity and transparency, citing the need to strike a balance between these competing rights.
More than 5 million of Israel’s 9.3 million people have received a first jab since the country’s largest vaccination program began three months ago, and more than 4.5 million have received the mandatory second jab of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Infection rates and the number of chronically ill patients are also on the decline.
