According to police, Josephine Panyin Mensah, the Takoradi woman who allegedly went missing before being recovered, was never pregnant, as her family claimed.
According to a police statement released on Thursday, September 23, 2021, a comprehensive medical investigation by physicians at the Axim Government Hospital showed that the missing lady “was never pregnant within the period under review.”
As a result of this discovery, authorities are now investigating the lady, who was reported missing on September 16, as a suspect in the investigation.
Police also said, “she may have conspired with other persons over her possible planned disappearance.”
Following this discovery, three individuals have been detained for additional questioning on potential conspiracy charges.
According to investigators, Josephine said that she went to the European Hospital in Takoradi for prenatal checks and assessments.
However, medical records at the institution indicate that the woman attended the hospital without being pregnant in October 2020.
The police finding follows a similar claim made by the Western Regional Minister, which caused controversy.
Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Minister, said that his knowledge was based on a preliminary security report he received from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Michael Simmons, Josephine’s husband, claimed that his wife was pregnant.
The police also expressed worry about the prevalence of faked kidnappings in the Western Region, stating that “where people conspire to create “self-kidnapping” incidents to make money out of ransoms.”
“A team with support from the National Headquarters has been put together to quell this emerging crime in the Western Region.”
