Tadej Pogacar, who achieved the prestigious Triple Crown in 2024, remains as motivated as ever as he gears up for another successful season. The Slovenian cyclist is focused on further expanding his impressive list of accolades. Additionally, Pogacar has expressed a strong desire to defend his road race title at the World Championships, highlighting its significance on his agenda.

Building on a Stellar 2024
Pogacar’s 2024 season was nothing short of remarkable. He triumphed in the general classification at both the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia, cementing his status as one of the sport’s greats. His victory at the UCI World Championships in Switzerland, where he earned a gold medal in the men’s road race, further elevated his legendary status. This feat made him only the third cyclist in history to secure the Triple Crown, following Eddy Merckx and Stephen Roche.
Reflecting on his achievements, Pogacar shared that his win at the World Championships with the Slovenian national team holds a special place in his heart. “There were so many nice victories, and in the biggest races, that I can’t choose just one. But the victory at the World Championships is a little more important than the others,” he said in an interview with Siol.net via Cycling News.
Eyeing the World Championships in Kigali
The World Championships in 2025 will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, marking the first time the event is hosted in Africa. Pogacar acknowledged the difficulty of defending his title, noting that only the most exceptional riders have achieved back-to-back wins in this race. “The World Championships will probably be the most difficult race to defend,” he admitted. However, he remains enthusiastic about competing in new events and testing his limits.
Preparing for 2025
Pogacar’s preparation for the upcoming season is already underway. Despite the cold winter weather in Slovenia, the 26-year-old rider for UAE Team Emirates is set to join his team for December training in warmer climates. “These days I have to train in a structured way for the new season. The last week we have had really cold weather, and I don’t feel like going training!” he shared.
As he eyes another Tour de France yellow jersey and a maiden Vuelta a España victory, Pogacar is motivated by the thrill of competition and the love of cycling. “I look forward to new challenges. I like to test myself on the bike and enjoy nature. It’s not hard to motivate yourself,” he concluded.
With his exceptional talent and unrelenting drive, Pogacar’s 2025 season promises to be another chapter in his already illustrious career.
