Holy Child Senior High School, Cape Coast has celebrated its 76th Speech and Prize-Giving Ceremony, with a call on all Ghanaian students, especially female students to be resilient in their academic pursuits.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo making the call said academic feat could only be achieved through resilience despite the numerous hurdles and challenges it comes with.
Speaking on the theme for the celebration, Building Resilience and Inspiring Creativity in the Girl Child Through Exemplary Leadership, she noted that students can persevere and not give up in their aim to achieve academic excellence.
She said “If you want to remain mediocre, you can continue to do things in the same old way but excellence requires resilience and creativity. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t first succeed.”
This she said has become necessary as much is expected from women as women are generally caregivers at home and have the tendency of achieving excellence through creativity.
On her part, the Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Martha Owusu Agyeman stated that the future of every country depends entirely on education. To her, the theme for the celebration is timely as the current generation operates within a fast-changing world governed by technology.
“In the face of this, we need to equip our new generation to be lifelong learners and with the ability to learn how to learn so that they can keep abreast with the change, and become active valuable members of our communities. A nation needs resilient and determined people with a sense of social responsibility to articulate its growth” she said.
The celebration also saw the handing over of the legacy project mantle from the 1997-year group to the 1998-year group.
Speaking with ATLFM NEWS the president of the 1998-year group, Mrs. Akosua Akyeampong indicated the group will not relent on its efforts in undertaking developmental projects in the school.
“. Our sisters have started the renovation of the Archbishop Amissah House but there is more work to be done. So, we are going to take on the first floor and the base of the building. That is going to be our legacy project for the next year.”
She, therefore, called for the support of the alumnae of the school to help in realizing this dream.
