Over 200 students from Wa Senior High Technical School have been stranded after a fire razed parts of the school’s main girls’ dormitory block.
The fire broke out at 8:00 p.m. last night, damaging five rooms and the girls’ possessions in the one-story dormitory block.
The assistance of Ghana National Fire Service personnel was required to bring the disaster under control, preventing the fire from burning the entire dormitory block.
Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Iddrisu Imran, who led the team of firemen to the scene, said that the initial cause of the fire was unknown, but that his outfit had begun inquiries into the accident, which had affected over 200 girls.

“The top floor of about five rooms was affected. The fire started burning before we were called. We are trying our best to quench the fire. There are no casualties, some of them were shocked and have been sent to the nearest health facility,” he stated.
