Stormzy has announced the launch of his film production company, #Merkyfilm, which will feature him in its inaugural release.
Similar to his other ventures, #Merkyfilm aims to celebrate Black British stories and talent. The first project is a short film titled Big Man, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Aneil Karia, known for The Long Goodbye and Surge.
Big Man will premiere on YouTube on June 18, showcasing Stormzy as a former rap star facing a new chapter in his life. This marks his first lead acting role, and on the film’s poster, he is credited as Michael “Stormzy” Omari, blending his real name with his stage persona.
“It captures the joy, spirit, and fearless energy of youth, and I hope it inspires you to dream big,” he expressed during the announcement.
In the film, shot entirely on a phone, Stormzy portrays Tenzman, who rekindles his passion for music after connecting with two young boys named Klevis and Tyrell. The role of Klevis is played by 15-year-old Klevis Brahja, who was discovered while scouted on the street, while 14-year-old Jaydon Eastman, already experienced in West End roles, plays Tyrell.
Stormzy has been developing #Merkyfilm for some time and hopes it will serve as a platform for authentic British storytelling. “Music is my first love, but film is my second,” he said.

He previously established #MerkyBooks to broaden access to the publishing industry and launched #MerkyFC in 2022 to support careers in sports, including a youth hub in Croydon with various amenities.
In addition to Big Man, Stormzy has announced several other upcoming film projects, including a drama series, an animation, a mockumentary, and a biopic aimed at making a significant cultural impact.
