The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rock Africa, Mr. Francis Bullen Gavor has called on all stakeholders and the government to prioritize investing in technology to aid in students training and development.
He asserts that training students in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will endow them with the requisite knowledge in pursuit of their educational goals.
Mr. Govor therefore proposed for the provision of computers and internet to aid the students explore and facilitate their learning.
“I’m aware of the science and math laboratory developed by the college, but that is too focused on the national science and math quiz program. I would like to propose that every student should have access to a computer wherever they want to study. We need to find smart ways of giving the student access to internet so that they can explore more without also falling into the trap of using the access for undesirable outcomes.
To him, “No student should leave college without a working knowledge of using computers in their work.”
CEO of Rock Africa, Mr. Francis Bullen Gavor was speaking at the 94th Anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day of St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast on Saturday March 16, 2024.
The theme for this year’s celebration was Pioneering Education on the Foundation of Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Future.
Touching on the theme, Mr. Bullen Gavor stressed the need to formalize the collaboration between parents and old students for an improved infrastructure to support education.

He asserted that with population growth, access to education improves with the pressure on existing infrastructure being a near-ending one especially for top-notch schools like St. Augustine’s College.
He indicated that the situation is even more disturbing in the boarding schools.
“I believe the time has come for these collaborative efforts by PTAs, old students, and the mission churches to be formalized and accorded the necessary roles played in the delivery of quality education as a whole.We can’t allow the current structure to prevail, as doing so will only compound the issues further,” he continued.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Hubtel, Mr. Alex Bram tasked the students to cultivate the habit of perseverance, and embrace failure as they journey through life.
He encouraged them to find their spark(s) and move steadily towards it and not give up.
“Find it and move towards it. Your spark may not necessarily be one spark, it might be several sparks and it’s okay. Many give up at the starting stage because it’s always difficult to start. The initial difficulty is a trick of nature. Nature tricks us all, forcing us to confront our fears and doubts. If you can go past this trick, you will have enormous chances for success,” he advised.
Meanwhile, an estimated amount of 5.3 million Ghana Cedis was spent on legacy projects by the 1999 host year group of 94th College Anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day.
The legacy projects included a renovated and modernized nine hundred student’s capacity ultra-multi- eighteen-unit classroom block, provision of thirty-five kilowatts solar system, chairs for the headmaster’s office, provision of other auxiliary for the school, and other renovated works.
