The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana, SSA-UoG, and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana, FUSSAG, have officially suspended their ongoing strike.
This suspension takes effect from Wednesday, October 16.
The decision was reached following an emergency meeting yesterday, during which both associations received a formal government response addressing their key demands.
In the letter, the government confirmed the approval of new rates for the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance and Off-Campus Allowance, which will benefit eligible members of the associations.
Furthermore, the National Executive Committees of SSA-UoG and FUSSAG have announced that the suspension of the strike will pave the way for continued negotiations with the government on their Conditions of Service. These discussions are already in progress.
The committees also reassured members that other critical issues, such as integrating the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) into the Universities Pay Structure, are actively being addressed.
According to the signed Memorandum of Agreement, these outstanding negotiations are expected to be resolved within a two-week period, beginning October 2, 2024.
The leadership therefore urged all members to remain calm and patient while they continue to work with the government to meet their rightful demands.
