Special Voting for the Eastern and Western Regions, scheduled for Monday, December 2, has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 5.
This allows for reprinting ballot papers for the two regions after it was recalled.
The recall followed a report by the National Security that a defaced presidential ballot paper for the Eastern Region had found its way out of the printing house.
Addressing the press on Sunday, December 1, 2024, EC Chairperson, Madam Jean Mensa explained that the defaced ballot paper had already been earmarked for destruction when it leaked.
According to her, Rocheck Limited undertook the printing, which was supervised and observed by the National Investigation Bureau, the National Security, agents of the political parties, and EC staff.
Madam Jean Mensa reiterated the commission’s efforts to ensure the integrity of the ballots emphasizing that “Parties have also informed us that they would also heighten security around the reprinting of the ballots.
Additionally, she said the serial numbers would also be revised to ensure a market difference between what has already been printed and what is about to be printed.
Though the defaced presidential ballot was for the eastern region, the western region ballots were also recalled as both were printed by the same printing house, Rocheck Limited.
The commission therefore said “In the light of the above, the special voting for the eastern region and the western regions will not take place tomorrow, Monday, the 2nd of December as planned.
The special voting for the two regions will now take place on Thursday, the 5th of December. As we all know, the special voting brings together persons and personnel who will be operating and undertaking duties on election day.
