Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, has urged all Ghanaians to change their thinking and work together to change the country’s bad narrative about corruption.
This, he believes will help to transform the republic and place it at a solid forefront on the continent.
Mr. Kissi Agyebeng said Ghanaians can contribute to the development and wellbeing of the country by exposing and reporting corrupt practices and their related activities.
He made this statement while briefing the press in Accra Thursday to commemorate the International Anti-corruption Day which is observed globally on December 9 to raise awareness of corruption and of the role of the convention in combating and preventing corruption.
Mr. Kissi Agyebeng hinted that starting January 2022, the Office of the Special Prosecutor will roll out some mechanisms to aid the fight against corruption in the country.
“Public agencies will be ranked against each other on a corruption barometer and the results will be published every 9th December”, he hinted.
According to him, discussions have commenced with the local chapter of Transparency International, The Ghana Integrity Initiative, to be the main strategic partner on this program.
Integrity Plans
Mr. Kissi Agyabeng indicated the OSP will also in 2022 require all public institutions, departments, agencies, and companies to prepare and submit to the OSP, integrity plans intended at assessing deficiencies in their regulations, procedures, policies, guidelines, administration instructions, and internal control mechanisms to determine their vulnerability and exposure to corrupt practices and the prescription of curative measures to manage such susceptibility to corruption and corruption-related offenses.
He said “I am also setting up internal control mechanisms at the OSP to prevent corruption at the OSP itself” adding that the OSP will also carry out anti-corruption risk assessment and review from January 2020 of all major public contracts.
He also called on the government to allocate adequate funds to the Office of the Special Prosecutor to assist in carrying out their constitutional mandate.
“I look forward to the provision of adequate funding and the necessary material resources as stipulated in Article 6&36 of the UN Convention, to carry out this most challenging and solemn mandate” he intimated.
