Ghanaians are advised to seek the assistance of pharmacists either in hospitals, community clinics or chemical shops regarding their medications.
This pharmacists across the globe say will help in preventing all kinds of diseases caused by self-medication or wrong prescription of drugs.
Every year, Pharmacists around the world celebrate World Pharmacist’s Day where Pharmacists share widely on different platforms including hospitals, community centres, and radio stations among others on the role of pharmacists.
This year’s celebration was commemorated on Monday 25th September 2023 on the theme: Role of the Pharmacist; Pharmacy strengthening health systems.
Speaking to ATLFM, the Chairperson of the Pharmacists Association in Cape Coast, Madam Abena Esia-Donkoh revealed that it is the role of Pharmacists to produce medicines and dispense medications, therefore, pharmacists are there for the safety of all people.
“We want to take this opportunity to tell people that we are your pharmacist and ready to listen to you. So ‘Ask your pharmacist’. Talk to us about your medication. Let us know what you want and what you’re going through. You have every right to ask the pharmacist what the medication is being used for,” Madam Esia-Donkoh indicated.
On his part, Mr. Kwabena Nimako who is also a member of the Pharmacists Association in Cape Coast revealed that in a roadside or hospital pharmacy, there are three main categories of people who assist clients seeking their services.
He said they include a pharmacist, a technician, and a medicine counter assistant (MCA)
”So, we always advise the public that anytime you enter the pharmacy, you ask to speak to the pharmacist, because he has been trained, qualified to know, to treat minor disease.” Mr. Nimako added.
