Popular singer Mzbel has voiced her concerns on the surge in inappropriate social media use and cyberbullying.
Being open about her experiences, Mzbel revealed that she has previously brought legal action against media outlets and bloggers, but these cases were kept confidential due to their sensitive nature.
“I have sued media people before and taken a couple of people on, but it was not made public. They have learned their lessons and have repented. One is a journalist, and the rest are bloggers,” Mzbel noted in an interview on Accra FM, July 29.
Mzbel said that character assassination and the dissemination of misleading information are the main harmful uses of social media in the modern era.
“I feel like a lot of people are taking advantage of social media to do wrong things. We are abusing social media. Irrespective of the calibre of people, netizens will find a way to disrespect someone…Socia media has become like a weapon,” she lamented.
