The Association of Small Scale Miners will meet later today to discuss President Akufo-Addo’s order to the military to clear mining operators from forest reserves and water bodies.
The conference is proposed to be held in the Eastern region. Illegal miners across the country are dissatisfied with the belief that their actions contaminates water sources and the atmosphere.
Following the conference, they would release a communique outlining their action plan.
The President has directed the military to remove illicit mines from the shores of our bodies of water and land reserves.
However, it seems that this order would have an effect on small-scale miners.

Akufo-Addo reiterates his determination to combat unregulated small-scale mining.
President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his dedication to cracking down on illicit small-scale mining, also known as “galamsey” in Ghana.
According to him, his government has reintroduced legislation to combat the scourge that is wreaking havoc on the country’s water sources and climate.
In an interview with CNN, he said that he and his administration, with the help of the military, would eliminate the threat to the environment’s natural condition.
“We are determined to deal with it. In reality, I, the Armed Forces, have ordered major operations this week to clean our waterways of all the equipment and machinery that is destroying and polluting our atmosphere and waters.”
